Discover: Content Engagement Up 89% After Feed Algorithm UX Redesign

Reducing scroll fatigue and increasing relevance signals drove deeper engagement

Discover: Content Engagement Up 89% After Feed Algorithm UX Redesign

The Challenge

What Discover Was Facing

Discover's content platform had high daily install numbers but low session depth — users were opening the app, scrolling briefly, and leaving without engaging with content. Feed relevance was poor, content previews failed to communicate value quickly enough, and there was no mechanism for users to signal what they wanted to see more of.

The Solution

What We Built

We redesigned the content card format to surface the most engaging signal within the first 150 pixels of scroll — headline, time-to-read, and a single strong visual. Implicit preference signals from scroll depth and dwell time were fed into the recommendation engine. An explicit "more like this / less like this" control was introduced as a persistent micro-interaction within the feed.
