Library Machine: Catalogue Engagement Up 3.2x After Search UX Redesign

Fixing discovery friction turned casual visitors into active borrowers

Library Machine: Catalogue Engagement Up 3.2x After Search UX Redesign

The Challenge

What Library Machine Was Facing

Library Machine's digital catalogue had poor discoverability — users searching for resources were hitting dead ends due to rigid search logic, no faceted filtering, and a results page that prioritised metadata over relevance. Catalogue engagement was low and returning user rates were declining, indicating the product was failing to deliver on its core promise.

The Solution

What We Built

We redesigned the search and discovery flow with fuzzy search, a dynamic filter sidebar, and relevance-ranked results that surfaced availability and format prominently. A "you might also like" recommendation engine was introduced on resource pages. The checkout flow for borrowing was reduced from five steps to two.
